Gardens, Grace & Wine 3/22/2010

While in Wine Country, Chateau St. Jean is not to be missed. I have come here over the years to sit in the gardens & sip wine. In the spring, it is extraordinarily gorgeous w/ everything in bloom. You are welcomed by an archway & a pathway. You will wander down that path to the first courtyard that has a bubbling fountain w/ meditation benches & architecture that is pleasing to the eye. Continue your stroll toward the tasting rooms through well tended hedges and ornamental plants. Passing through another archway, there is another inner courtyard. To your right the general tasting room & to your left the reserve room.(there is a fee to taste) I prefer reserve but its hard to find a bad wine here. Buy a bottle, bring a picnic & you will feel like you are in the Great Gasby era or earlier. The reserve room is inside the restored chateau. The weekend we went there was a watercolor art exhibit on the walls of the upper floors that we explored. The upper floors in the chateau also have private tasting rooms. If you want to just spend time chatting, sipping wine & feeing like you are in another time, this is the winery to visit. Pros: Picturesque more
