Having grown up in Decatur, Athens Pizza will always hold a special place in my heart. It was actually the first pizza I ever had outside of my mother's homemade pies. So with that said, understand you are reading a biased review.
I've tried a few of their Greek specialties over the years, but I always come back to the pizza. I love the slightly sweet and flaky crust, and while some might characterize it as too greasy, I wouldn't.
The Athens Special is always a favorite for sharing among groups, but I tend to be a pick-your-own toppings kind of guy. I'll switch it up every now and then, but my mainstay is gyro meat. Where else can you get that on a pizza?
In regards to these so called ""Atlanta Pizza Wars"", Athens would probably get overlooked by most. The Greeks haven't much for battles since the BC times anyway and my guess is Mrs. Papadopoulos has never heard of Jeff Varasano.
