Found dream house in Old Hickory Village that had been abandoned for 4years (needed lots of work). Since I was new to gardening I spent all of winter 2009 reading and researching. So when spring 2009 came around I was at Bates with all of my notes. Every project (except one)there was someone who knew about the plants I had read about and the care and best location for planting. I now have a shade garden, flowering vines and the fence, flowers just for cutting, spring flowers, summer and fall flowers, I even started an herb garden late in summer that thrived. My only frustration was the rose selection and then their lack of knowledge when I developed black spot one the roses I did buy. I organic garden and Bates Nursery seemed at a loss when I would ask for help. But that is small. I love the e-mails that Mr Bates puts out. I look forward to them each week. Bates Nursery is worth the drive.
Pros: answers all my questions, never made me feel rushed
Cons: rose selection was poor and so was their knowledge r/t them
