Great Veterinary Care 3/27/2010

I am very happy to have found a great veterinarian nearby to my home. After extensive research on vets in the Newport Beach area, I finally decided to take my German Shepherd to the Newport Center Animal Hospital (NCAH) right down the street on Avocado St. (on the outskirts of Fashion Island). I brought my dog in because she was having diarrhea on and off for a few weeks. Then I noticed blood in her stool, and when I noticed that, I was able to make an appointment for the very next day with NCAH, and I didn?t have to wait at all when we arrived. It was a very pleasant experience overall. The facility is very nice, and very clean. The ?nursing? staff was extremely helpful, friendly and personable. The veterinarian that saw my dog (Lauren Craft) was very thorough, knowledgeable, informative and pleasant. She took the time to explain to me (thankfully in language I could comprehend) the various ailments and potential causes that might fit my dog?s symptoms. The exam itself was very thorough and comprehensive. It really gave me the feeling that my dog was being checked out completely (teeth, hips?everything!), and being well taken care of. I might add that my dog behaved outstandingly considering a rubber-gloved rectal exam! Anyway, I had brought in a stool sample from that morning, and I opted to have that sent out to their lab to look for worms etc. They said it would take about a day. Impressively, they called me the very next day with the update, and I appreciate that type of professionalism in a vet. With other vets I?ve taken my dog(s) to I would usually have to put in a few calls to them before I?d get answers, and each call inevitably consisted of me having to remind them of who I was, what my dog was there for, and what information I was waiting for. But at this veterinarian there are no concerns whatsoever in that regard. In fact, if memory serves me correctly, I think it was the veterinarian herself who called me with the results of my dog?s fecal test! Most veterinarians would not take the time to add that much-appreciated personal touch of placing the call themselves. Anyway, they gave me a detailed (itemized), printed breakdown of the costs of various things they recommended. The veterinarian wasn?t pushy and didn?t try to guilt-trip me about the items (some vets I have been to in the past made me fell like a horrible person if I didn?t do certain tests, medications etc., which I later found out (after caving to the pressure and spending hundreds of dollars) were completely unnecessary! Know what I mean? You don?t have to worry about that here. Pros: Great Staff, Very Knowledgeble Veterinarian more
