We went to Taste of Julia's for the first time on Saturday 2/13/10. It's located on Route 4, where the old Spinning Fork used to be. Looks like they do a pretty good amount of take-out business, but also offer a full menu, and a buffet. That night they were doing a Valentine's special offering the buffet, appetizers, and dessert, but we stuck with the basic buffet, which was more than enough. While the buffet was a little pricey, it was far and away the best buffet I've ever had (and I am not typically a fan of buffets.) The buffet had fried chicken (which was some of the best fried chicken I've ever had), ham w/ pineapple, smothered chicken, meatloaf, greens & cabbage, sweet potatoes, black eyed peas and real southern style cornbread (just like my mom's, not that sweet stuff these Northerns call cornbread!) There was more on the buffet but you get the idea. We got there around 5:15p and were the only dine-in customers when we arrived, but the place was full by the time we left around 6:15p. The service was friendly and informal. It was a different dining experience, more like a pitch-in dinner at a Southern Baptist church where all the women cook for the taste of it and never heard of the words 'low fat.' I saw a negative review for Julia's on line but it was from about a year and a half ago. I have to say our experience was fantastic and I believe that they have worked out the 'kinks' that those diners experienced. Eating at Julia's was definitely a splurge both on price and calories, but we'll be back whenever we need some good old fashion comfort food. There is no place like Julia's in the area and it was a breath of fresh air.
