It should have raised a red flag when I found Skateaway deals in CASH ONLY. They require that you show in person to arrange parties (no online registration, no checks, no credit cards...just cash, in person). I went there and arranged a party for my eight-year-old. We sent out invitations and took care of the RSVP's. Three hours before the party, at about 11 am, Skateaway phoned to tell us that they were closed because of five inches of snow the night before. We had to locate guests at the last moment to tell them that plans were changed. We made last-minute changes to have a party at the YMCA. When I asked for my deposit, I was informed that all deposits are NON-REFUNDABLE (even if THEY cancel) and I would need to apply the deposit to another party at another time. When I complained that it was Skateaway who had canceled, I was told that the contract said all deposits are non-refundable for ANY reason. Regardless of what the contract may or may not say, Skateaway is clearly more interested in pocketing deposit money than it is in providing a good customer experience.
