I don't usually write reviews but had to take the time to do this because I have had several bad experiences with Kalupas over the past few years. I gave 2 stars because the cakes taste good but the rude customer service is unbearable. Here are a few stories to explain my rating:
1-The owner (I believe her name is Susan) is always short and rude, both in person and on the phone. You would think spending $50-$100 on a cake would warrant some common politeness to paying and repeat customers.
2. I went in last year to order my husband's birthday cake and was being helped by the owner when another customer walked in the bakery. The other customer stated she was in a hurry so the owner told me she would be right back after she helped the other customer. I waited at least five minutes and then walked out. I drove straight to Alessi Bakery and got a wonderful and delicious cake.
3. I ordered a shower cake a few years ago and picked it up the day of the shower (a Sunday). I took it home and the cake slid into the side and the icing got very messed up. My husband took it back to Kalupas and asked for them to fix it (even offered to pay) the owner refused and said the cake was in perfect condition when we picked it up and they could not help. He then went to the Publix bakery because the shower was an hour away. They fixed it quickly, beautifully, and for FREE. It shows a lot about Publix's customer service that they would fix another store's cake.
4. I went to Kalupas to order my son's birthday cake and was going to bring back some additional art work to be put on the cake. The owner left me several rude messages and when I called back to say I would bring in the art, she said the cake maker didn't have time to read/review that sort of thing, What???
They only reason I keep going back is because of the location. As soon as the new Alessi location opens up on Kennedy, I will never set foot through the Kalupas door again.
