I contracted with ADT almost two years ago. Since we very rarely turn on the alarm system, I decided to cancel the service. I spoke to one of their representatives who told me that they require 70% of the remaining contract (a 3 year contract) as a cancellation fee. So to cancel would cost me almost $500 after two years as a customer. Apparently, this is in the contract I signed when it was installed. Shame on me for not reading it. But 70%?? That seems like an unreasonable cost. So I guess I will keep the service and continue to pay for something I do not use. But beware if you are considering ADT. Especially if you have never used a security system before and are not sure it is right for you.
