I live just 3 short blocks away from Kabuki so have been frequenting it since it opened a couple years ago. The food has always been reliably good and has kept me coming back regardless of the bumps in the road when it came to service, pricing, and wait times.
Unfortunately, after my experience there tonight, I've decided to give up and either go to the more reasonably priced (but not as tasty) O Sushi two blocks away or the spectacular (but more pricey) Benihana to get my sushi fix from now on.
First of all, as usual, there were 3 different servers that would come to our table with menus or water or salad/soup. You never really know who is your server and inevitably end up just flagging someone over to take your order. My group felt right from the get-go that no one wanted to take care of us and we were just burdening someone else's busy server. Then, despite the fact that our server, Nada, had pen in paper in hand when she took our order AND came back a second time to double check it, I still never received my meal (seared tuna and edamame). At first I thought maybe it just wasn't finished yet because for some reason the other 3 people's food at all came out separately. Then after 15 minutes of no one coming to check on us, we finally flagged down a DIFFERENT server to ask if we still had more food coming out. He came back with the receipt and asked what we didn't receive. I told him and he just kind of said ""Oh."" And then I said that I did not even want the food anymore because the rest of our table was finished eating by that point.
To make matters worse, at no point did our original server Nada or anyone else come over and apologize for the mistake. Rude and pretty unprofessional if you ask me. To top that off, we waited another 15 minutes before flagging down a THIRD server to ask for our bill. I'm clearly not worth enough as a customer for you to want me to come back. Well, congrats Kabuki Sushi, you lost 4 customers tonight!
