don't order chips 10/29/2010

Over the past two years I have eaten at felipe's numerous times. they were recomended to me by my daughter who lives in wichita. I have in turn recomended the restaurant to many of my friends who have all eaten there and enjoyed the food. \r \r Apparently they have grown to the point where they no longer believe that common courtesy and putting customers first is important. \r \r My daughter called me this evening after a visit to felipe's. she had joined a birthday party there and had to arrive late due to a prior appointment. When she sat at the table the waiter ignored her and did not ask her if she wanted something to drink or if she would like to see a menu. At first she shrugged it off as being a mistake and decided she'd just a catch his attention when he returned the next time. \r \r Just before he came back to the table some of the rest of the party decided thay would like to have more chips and salsa and since she was the end of the table asked her to ask for them. \r \r When she caught the waiter's attention and asked if the table could have more chips he barked at her and told her she would have to pay for $1.35 for chips because they weren't free. She tried to explain to him that she hadn't even had the chance to order. He nastily asked her if she wanted to see a menu but by now she had decided not to reward the restaurant for the rudeness of her waiter even though she was hungry and had intended to order when she came in. \r \r The waiter then returned and gave her a check for $7.00. when she tried to tell him this couldn't be her check he basically yelled at her and told her that he already told her she had to pay for chips and salsa. When she told him that he had said it would be $1.35 he admitted that he gave her the wrong check and brought her a new one for $2.70. \r \r She decided to pay the bill and be done with it but also did exactly like she was taught to do and complained to the person who was checking her out. when the waiter saw her talking to this person he ran to the front and yelled at her in front of a crowd of people waiting in line to check out and told her they didn't want her business and to never come back. \r \r She will defintely oblige. After she told me about the incident I decided to call and talk to the manager. I believe that when something like this happens its important to let management know so they can correct the situation and keep it from damaging their reputation going forward. When I started to tell him what happened he cut me off and said that over half of the table didn't order food other than chips and salsa. I told him I completely understood that in order to make a profit he had to sell food and not just supply chips and salsa to people, but that the waiter automatically assumed that she wasn't going to order and didn't even address her when she came in, was rude and then did everything he could to embarass her. \r The manager promptly hung up on me. \r \r I know that it must be frustrating to have a group of people come into a restaurant, take up a bunch of seats and then order very little food. I'm not sure that it justifies being rude to people or yelling at them and telling them to never come back. \r \r In this economy it's especially important that service workers understand how important it is to be pleasant and how important it is to treat your customers with respect. The bill tonight may have only been $2.74 but they just lost hundreds of dollars in potential revenue by over reacting and treating a customer poorly. \r \r I hope the owners of the restaurant have some idea about the level of service their employees are providing. \r \r \r more
