My experience at the Penn Amish Motel was a horrible one. I arrived and checked into this place at 10 PM, it was a last minute choice to stay there and I had found this place online. They didn't have a website to visit or email address to contact but I was able to find out their phone # on Google Info so I called to ask their rates for a basic room, which was about $78 (which I thought a little pricey for a motel so it must be nice).
Upon entering the room it smelled very musty and like old cigarettes. The bed spread had a burn hole from a cigarette (I pulled it back and put it on the floor) the rest of the sheets looked alright so I went to bed. I used the restroom to brush my teeth before bed, watched a little TV and fell asleep. All night I was sneezing and feeling like I was having an allergic reaction to something. The next morning I wake up to get a shower before I leave, upon entering the bathroom there was a hair on one of the hand towels (not my own). I noticed the shower had not even been cleaned (there were several boogers smeared on the wall by previous visitors that were not washed off)! Then after my shower I go to turn the air conditioner on (because it was hot in the room from the shower), low and behold there is mold all inside the air conditioning vents so I immediately turn it off. I start noticing many other things about this place that are totally unsanitary. The microwave still had food spattered inside. The room had cobwebs all over the walls and dust everywhere on top of the TV and any other still surfaces.
I took some pictures of the mess left a note in the room expressing my disgust. Then I turned my key into the place that morning and decided I would call and ask for a refund later or at least some of my money back.
The woman that works at the front desk (an Indian woman, not sure of her name) was very uncooperative and refused to give me a full refund the best she said she could do was $10 (which I refused because I wanted more than that returned). She kept insisting I should have come to tell them that evening so they could have given us a different room. Well, I told her I hadn't seen the extent of the uncleanliness until the morning in daylight. She hung up on me the first and second times that I called her insisting that I get my money back! Not only that but the second time I called her which was the next day Sunday Oct, 10, 2010 I asked for a manager or the owner of the facility (she did not identify & kept me talking to her) I asked for at least that $10 refund and she said the only way to get it was to physically go there & they already have my credit card information. I am calling my Credit Union Monday (tomorrow) to see what they might be able to do for me in this case. I would never recommend anyone stay at this FILTHY DISGUSTING MOTEL with NASTY, CARELESS EMPLOYEES/OWNERS. I am still working on getting some money back from them, unfortunately it looks like it may not happen.
