Simone did a wonderful job cutting my hair and changing my look entirely! Today I was feeling particularly lazy and my hair was looking especially bad, so I decided to drop by Scissor's on my walk home. I hoped maybe there would be an opening, and my hair was in such bad condition that it couldn't hurt. I am incredibly finicky about my hair and Simone was the PERFECT person to go to. I walked in and she said she'd be able to help me out right then and there. Since I always panic as soon as I enter a hair studio, it was great that she asked me to sit down and flip through some pictures so we would ensure we were on the same page. She had me let my hair down and just looked at it. Simone was even able to tell I had a bit of glaze in my hair, which was pretty impressive since it didn't actually change the color when I did it.
Simone then washed my hair and explained how I should wash it in order to keep it healthy and, since my hair is VERY curly, how I should condition my hair. Then she had me sit down and tossed my hair around a bit to get an idea of how it falls naturally. At this point we decided we should do a before and after photo, since we were going for a different look. She took a few pictures so we could see from what point she started. We had agreed on framing my face better since my hair was falling at one length (ALL VERY LONG), so she cut it with a few shorter layers in the front and a nice trim all around to make it look MUCH healthier. I was very impressed at that point since most hair dressers don't know how to cut curly hair, and curly hair is incredibly different from person to person, so it's never the same kind of cut. Personally, I put a lot of trust in Simone cutting shorter layers in my hair and she definitely didn't disappoint me! I have fine hair that is very curly and very long, and I can't even explain how many times I've had a terrible hair cut. She did a great job making sure the layers weren't too short, but cut it in a way that they fall very nicely both when my hair is curly and straightened. She also styled my hair curly, but let it air dry a bit while we moved on to my makeup. Which was also incredibly fun! Simone showed me what kind of foundation to put on to even out my skin tone, which is usually a bit splotchy red, but otherwise clear. We then worked on a smokey eye look that I don't usually wear, but I liked the idea of changing my look, and I wanted something that I could wear at night for a more intense eye. She warned me that she was going to put some white powder under my eyes so that any of the eyeshadow that fell would be caught by the powder and not turn the area under my eyes very dark. That trick worked wonders! She also showed me a new product that keeps the eyeshadow from creasing throughout the night. After that she just started combining different shades of browns, blacks, and blues until she got the exact colors to work with my eye color (brown) and my hair color (dark brown). She then put on different shades of blush to highlight my cheekbones and elongate my face. She also filled in my eyebrows with dark brown powder that helped to elongate my eyes and make them more cat-like. To finish off the look, we put on a gloss to keep the attention on my eyes and then a finishing spray that helped set the powders. I was very impressed! Simone definitely knows what she is doing and the different palates with which she works. She also showed me how I could apply the makeup myself. Everything about my experience was amazing!
The last time I went to Scissors I was also very impressed. Melanie cut my hair and she did a wonderful job and even showed me different ways to style it, which was particularly fun. I am not used to being so comfortable at a salon and I will be going back to Scissors as long as I live anywhere near Richmond! Simone and her team know what they are doing!
