Gotta love it! 1/22/2010

AJ's is like a restaurant from a great TV show: good characters, people know you on a first-name basis, the waitstaff are always the same friendly people, the buzz of conversation is always pleasant, and customers love being there. The decor is reminiscent of a Gulf coast mom & pop restaurant commonly seen off the side of a country road in the Deep South. Jimmy Buffet and Cajun zydeco music sets the mood, and four TVs, particularly during football season, fill the room with buzz and excitement. Walls are adorned with eye-catching signs, knick-knacks and cleverly-placed tin-roofing nodding to the feel of a baithouse. The food and service is wonderful. I'm a big fan of the oysters on the half shell, the fried oyster sandwich, chicken gumbo, gator chili, gator taco, and jambalaya with that crusty French bread! No pushy waitstaff, just pleasant and courteous. If you have an out-of-town guest, particularly from another region of the country, take them here for a taste and feel for authentic Gulf Coast cuisine! Andy, the owner, knows how to throw a great party for sure! Go around Mardi Gras time. Also, try a low-country boil party. Excellent food and good times! Pros: Everything Cons: It's so good, it can get crowded! more
