Unconscionable and Unethical Attempt at Performing Unnecessary Costly Work\r

My 94 year old mother's furnace stopped working. She called Richmond Plumbing & Heating and the repairman came to check it out. He told her she needed a new valve replacement and new wiring inside. Quoted $550 for the job. She is on a fixed income and we are struggling to help her since we have our own bills and medical expenses for my husband undergoing heart surgery.\r

My sister called National Grid who said they would issue a service contract whereby you pay $263 per year for unlimited service calls. They came today and said the only thing needed was to relight the pilot light that had gone off!!!! No new parts. It is now working beautifully.\r

If this isn't a classic case of taking advantage of someone--especially a widow aged 94 years--I don't know what is! Despicable and unethical.\r
