I had heard about Lexington 1 for some time (even watching segments about the restaurant on the food network) so I was quite excited to finally visit the place. First let me say that the hushpuppies there are among the best I've had - light and crispy outside and perfectly cooked and seasoned inside; the bbq slaw was tasty as well. Of course we didn't go there for slaw and puppies, so next came the Que...what a let down! We ordered the regular chopped and the coarse chopped with ""outside brown"" which is the outside bit of meat that come in closest contact with the heat/fire when cooking. The regular chopped que was very bland and extremely wet! I like moist bbq, but this tasted like it had been overcooked then water was added to compensate. The coarse chopped was even worse - dry, charred strips of what I assumed had at one point been pork - I couldn't eat it all. I'm glad I had the experience, but I can't say that I'll ever go back to this restaurant...what a disappointment. I only give Lex 1 two stars for the great hushpuppies and slaw. Luckily enough while driving through the quaint Lexington, NC and visiting a popular jewelry shop it was suggested that the best place to eat que in Lexington is Speedy's...boy were they right...great barbecue (I'll write a full review on the ""Speedy's"" page).
Pros: Great Hushpuppies!
Cons: Awful Que
