A once caring and compassionate place for pets and their owners has turned into a nickel and dime hustle that reflects "subsidized healthcare" for animals. Your relationship with your vet should be a joint vested interest in providing care for your animals. Today, Dr. Mary Jane and the staff of Shively Animal Clinic lost my respect; not only as veterinarians--for undermining my intelligence to care for my animal, but as an amiable establishment for their rude dissension. Denied an over the counter dressing for my dog, and scolded about the ?seriousness? of applying it, I was pressured to bring my furry friend in (after hours) to be examined. After I refused, explaining it was nothing serious?a cut that needed looking after; most likely from a briar patch on our property...I was denied a product that I could purchase myself online. ?We don?t want to be responsible if the dressing isn?t put on correctly.? Uh, ok, let me get this straight... You won?t sell me a glorified ace bandage, but you will sell me a product that has an MSDS on file with the federal government; i.e. Frontline and HeartGaurd. After their neglect of customer service (2 personnel and one supervisor later) and over-inflating the ?seriousness? of dressing my dog?s wound myself, my husband and I have made the decision to remove our pets from their care and build a new relationship with a more helpful practice that advocates an owners proactive role in the health of their pets.
