Last April I purchased a used Casita trailer in Texas. I wanted to use a WDH to tow it. Casita said they use the Curt Model 17000 WDH. I contacted Bill's Radiator and Muffler in Plano, TX and they said they could install the WDH and brake controller, both Curt products. Two days before arriving, I phoned to make sure the correct items would be ready for installation.
When I arrived, they had a 1000 lb toungue weight WHD and not the 600 lb WDH. They told me it did not matter, it could handle up 1000 lb. I refused to let them install the hitch and insisted they get Model 17000. Reluctantly, they agreed but insisted on installing the brake controller that day. I let them. What a mistake. I should have gone to a shop that knew what they were doing.
Many mistakes were made:
1) The trailer was never tested with the brake controller to establish correct settings. Later, after reading the controller instruction material, I followed the procedure to find set the controller correctly.
