While the menu is appealing when you read it, the actual prep by the kitchen is mediocre at best. When we inquired if the fried perch could be saut?ed, the waitress gave a quick, ""No"". When we pressed further if she would inquire for us, the response was, ""I've asked before and they won't do it"". That should have been a dead give away that they can't prepare food to their customer's liking. Even though they serve saut?ed shrimp, they wouldn't or couldn't do saut?ed perch? Incredible. Further proof there are only cooks in the kitchen and no chefs? The dried out piece of salmon that I was served, accompanied by totally inedible serving of ""pilaf"". I wasn't expecting gourmet pilaf but what I was served was disgusting. The first mouthful of pilaf went directly into my napkin. It was nothing but seasoning salt...so much that nearly burned off my taste buds. Like a glutton for punishment, I tried more only to find more forkfuls of overly seasoned rice. I choked down the fish and left the pilaf. I specifically told the waitress of the problem with the pilaf, explaining that it was like trying to eat a salt lick. I got a requisite, ""I'll tell the kitchen"" and that was that.
I would never go back here again. Not on a dare. Not if I was starving. I'd try the Mermaid or the Butler (?), but never will I set foot inside Coral Gables again.
Pros: Covered deck on the water
Cons: The food; the wait staff; the kitchen.
