Purchased policy in Oct 2008 and took my puppy to the vet on the first day policy became effective (after 14 day waiting period) and the bill was $700 and as of today Aug 20, 2009 ~VPI still has not paid claim. First they took 45 days to review claim and sent a letter indicating ""temporary denial, we will send a separate letter outlining our request for additional information"". Another month went by and no letter so, I called. They told me they needed copies of the medical records for the year preceding the effective date of the policy through the treatment date of the claim. I faxed the records and waited another month and after receiving nothing, I called again. They indicated they never received the records so, I faxed them again. Another month and nothing so, I called again and was told it takes an additional 60 days for review of medical records. 60 days later, nothing so, I called again and spoke to a manager by the name of Jennetta that was very rude - she told me they were backed up and I'd simply have to wait longer. In May 2009, I got a letter that indicated the claim was denied because although there was nothing in the medical records that indicated there was a problem prior to the treatment date, VPI determined that a sore takes a while to manifest so, even though the puppy had no symptoms prior to the treatment day, the claim is denied. All the while, 10 months of premiums were timely debited from my account each month! Even if they had finally paid my claim, they would have taken out the 50 deductible, not covered hazardous waste materials, capped certain items at below the actual charge like office visits, and I'm sure excluded something else before paying the 90%. So, at best they might have reimbursed $400-500 of my claim. Well, I paid that in premiums so, I would have financial broke even. Think about your sanity before purchasing this insurance. I've spent hours going back and forth with them and when everything is said and done, I would have saved money not purchasing the insurance.
Cons: Don't Reimburse as Promissed
