A very bad place to adopt from 8/31/2009

My husband and I adopted a pittbull puppy from this humane society who is a year and half old. Once we got home we noticed him scratching alot and sneezing with nasty green slime flying everywhere. He had also been nuetered a coupld of days previous so his ball sack to be blunt was the size of a soft ball. They told us that was normal. We took him to the vet to find out that he has mange, kennel cough and more than likely canine influenza and the vet said he had never seen a neuturing turn out that way. We notified the humane society and they told us that he had no symptons of these things before. So according to them he contracted these things in the 2 hour car drive home. They did pay $80.00 on one of the vet bills. We are still taking this dog to the vet because mange is so hard to get rid of. Plus humans can get this nasty mite or whatever it is. We have paid $160.00 for the dog, and then a couple of hundred more in vet bills and meds. We have only had this dog for two months. I thought when you got a dog from a humane society that it would be healthy. I WAS SO WRONG. It is sad because after this experience I will never adopt from a humane society again. My vet said that he has heard nothing but bad things about this society in Pratt wish I would have known before hand. My vet gaurantees the society he takes care of. Problem now is my kids are very attached to Duke now. So what is it I am supposed to do? If you adopt from here buyer beware. Cons: Will never adopt again! more
