Shady business practices or bad barista? 7/3/2009

I had high hopes for Village Coffee with its small ""homegrown"" feel and cute design. As I looked through the menu, first thought that came to my mind was they offered only one size for their coffee beverages. Also, when I asked for nonfat milk, they informed me that they didn't carry it. With these two bits of information, I imagined that this was probably not a ""real"" coffee shop, BUT the commercial coffee bean grinder in the corner full of beans made me re-think that. What happened next can only be described as what I think are ""shady business practices."" I ordered an iced vanilla latte and was handed practically an iced coffee with a splash of milk and two pumps of vanilla syrup. I could tell this was an iced coffee because 1. the espresso machine was never touched and 2. She poured about 8oz of (ALREADY MADE) coffee into a cup and added a ""splash"" of milk to it. Being a barista myself, I knew exactly the difference between an iced coffee vs an iced latte. When I told her that I believed she had made me an iced coffee the girl said ""no its espresso"" and proceeded to charge me $4 for my ""latte"". Never again. more
