TERRIBLE, don't believe the hype...if there is any. Avoid. 6/15/2009

Let's just say that I have been begging my boyfriend to take me for a while now. I felt that it was such a well loved restaurant for the locals then why not be loved by me too. I should have yielded previous warnings and walked away. This atrocious meal cost me $30 for two people. For LUNCH! In Salida, at that!!! Let's start off with waiting at the hostess podium for about 10 minutes before someone came up to greet us. There were 3 tables occupied and two leaving. Not exactly what I would call a rush. Once we were finally greeted, we were sat at a table on the right close to 2 large groups of people. The place is small and cluttered with ""things"". The servers seemed frazzled and in a hurry. Not really a ?normal reaction? for the few tables actually seated at this time. Our server must have been in a rush because she opened my boyfriends drink all over my right sleeve of my brand new jacket. Nothing better then having soda sprayed all over your arm. She was nice and offered a paper napkin to wipe off my coat. Yey for wet paper rolls on top of sugar water! I ordered the Potato Leek soup. It at first tasted as though it was made with a water mixture and later once it cooled it actually tasted AND had the consistency of pureed vegetables. Thank goodness it came with Bread. Bread really does save the day. I have had better soup at a Quizino's. My opinion. We ordered hamburgers, medium rare. I took 2 photos. One photo of my burger, which was good (the only good thing) and one photo of my boyfriends? burger. If I can attach them note that his was frighteningly rare. Before I saw what he had on his plate, he managed to eat half. GROSS! I asked for no fries, got them anyway. Decided to nibble on a few and the taste of burnt oil was too much for me. It is still making me sick. My boyfriend had to cook his burger again to get it to an eatable medium rare. The burger/burgers tasted good, everything else was disgusting and not worth even half of what I paid. When we got the bill, I was further put off by the fact that I was being charged a voluntary donation without asking my permission to charge me first. When asked to remove it, I don't know if I was looked at sideways, but I felt it. It must be a local?s thing. When change was brought, it was all in big bills. This being one of my BIGGEST pet peeves. I had to wait even longer to get change for a tip. My advice, stay away! Especially if you LOVE food like I do. Pros: Not much, maybe a burger Cons: EVERYTHING - Cost, service, quality of food, presentation... more
