While this restaurant is a local landmark, has a loyal following and the atmosphere and staff are great the caliber of the food for the money leaves A LOT to be desired. I have had authentic Mexican in Mexico to Taco Bell and everything in between and unfortunately El Sombrero ranks right at the bottom of the list in terms of flavor, texture and overall quality. I've dined here on a number of occasions and always come away thinking the same thing...this food isn't just bad, its awful! Everything from your basic taco to enchiladas and taquitos are bland, greasy, tough, or swimming in unappealing sauces. I've found the safest thing on the menu is the Nachos and will concede that their salsa is excellent. Overall though they need to change their recipes, fire the chef or both.
