Should not have the city contract for strays 4/23/2009

The place is way too small for holding strays and try to find homes for them. I wonder if the public is aware that, if they bring in their pet for boarding, the boarders are next to strays. Not that there is anything wrong with strays. However, since there is no medical care given to the strays by intake, the risk of picking up a contagious decease, is a possibility. I would not board my dog there, and the prices are comparable to any much better managed facility. I have seen very sick dogs, without any treatment, just waiting to be put down after the five mandatory days are up. How can they?? The ""business"" of sheltering and placing homeless animals is very profitable, since they have no extra expenses for personnel or maintenance of the building. Everybody does everything. The people handling the adoptions are unfamiliar with the animals and I could never figure out what method of matching they are using to be sure animal and adopter are the right match. Also, the fact that all transactions pertaining to adoptions, are cash only, raises some questions, as well as not being computerized. I find the staff to be uninformed, rude, without an ounce of compassion, disorganized, in short bad. The city of Syracuse should have their own shelter. If a town like Camillus can, why not Syracuse Cons: all more
