Anyone who's ever left Royal Thai "unfulfilled" has obviously never been to Thailand. Royal Thai is 100% Authentic Thai Food, especially if you get it "Native Thai" which is one of the options. I'd suggest ordering a traditional Thai dish rather than one of the Americanized versions, but I'd also suggest not ordering it "Native Thai" unless you actually do have a cast iron stomach. "Medium" or "Spicy" is good enough--no need to burn out your American taste buds. And you should also eat "family style" at Royal Thai. For those of you who don't know, Family Style is when you order 3 or 4 dishes, you each get a plate of Jasmine Rice, and you share what's brought to the table. My personal favorites are the 502 and 603. 502 is vegetables with either chicken, shrimp, pork, beef, or tofu in a red curry sauuce. 603 is a vegetarian version of their most popular dish. But 604, the spicy eggplant, is a real treat, too. All the noodle dishes are great. Strangely, the only so-so experience I've had is with Pad Thai, the traditional dish of Thailand. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's horrendous.
But Royal Thai is only as good as the cooks who are on duty. This is true Thai Food--every cook has their own take on things.
But overall, a real treat. I eat there at least 3 times a month, sometimes more than that. 99.5% of the time, I'm very pleased.
Pros: Best Thai Food in Nashville, hands down.
Cons: None
