Three years ago, I enrolled full-time as an international student and learned the major acting techniques (Meisner, Strasberg, and a little of Stella Adler), as well as their signature Character Preference technique. Having these tools under my belt has given me a definite advantage in creating characters, being in the moment, reading between the lines, creating strong, specific, memorable choices, being able to improvise a scene, and most importantly, how to be real. It was challenging taking the full gamut of courses, but artistically, I feel like I've unlocked many doors for myself.
Each teacher has an impressive acting background. This isn't some scam-you-for-your-money, generic acting school. It's a highly specialized training ground for the serious, dedicated actor. I've also studied under top-notch guest directors and casting directors. The secrets they've shared are practical and applicable, giving me that extra edge in the field. It's a guilty pleasure having such insider information about the craft :)
The Promenade Playhouse staff treats me like family. I can only speak good things about them. Even after I graduate this December and embark on my optional practical training, I'm still going to take a class or two just to keep up my chops. The line-up changes every quarter, so please be sure to check out what they're offering on their website. And break a leg!
Pros: variety of courses, quality teachers, nurturing environment
Cons: parking (have to move my car after 3 hours)
