Community Radio is not dead. KPFT is a sister station in the Pacifica Network, and they take community activism and transparency very, very seriously. But it's also an open format station (one of the pioneers in the genre) and even the die-hard right winger's will tune in to 90.1 FM on the weekends for the Blues' Programming. Commercial free, musicians still drop in to play sets late night to promote gigs and product. Often called ""The Sounds of Texas"", KPFT celebrates 40 years on the air in 2010 - no mean feat when they started by being bombed off the air twice in the early days of the non-establishment fighting the East Texas Klu Klux Klan. In a world of alternative sources for digital content, KPFT is a jewel in the FM crown.
