I guess I'm the only one who hated it! 12/28/2009

I think lunch, or even dinner for that matter, for a family of 4 should be less than $75.00 in a standard bar/grille. I found the food extremely over priced and the quality extremely poor! My daughter is 8 and rarely finishes a childrens portion of pasta, which is what she ordered from Tir Na Nog and we paid $7.00 for. She was still very hungry when she finished. There was no meat selection but chicken tenders when my son ordered and he ordered an adult portion hamburger. His burger and fries were good and well prepered, he seemed to enjoy them. The waitress, though very polite and efficient, basically just shut me down when I asked if the chef might oblige a smaller portion of burger...that leads me to beleive they are surving up pre-portioned, probably pre-frozen patties (a la chain restaurant). So, the worst of all, Fish and Chips! I was astounded that in a seafaring town, at a place touting itself as an Irish Pub, would call the mess I was served Fish and Chips! I sent the first one back...it was dripping with grease (not that big a problem for me if it were the only one) and the color, I can only describe as chocolate brown! It was SO dark and dried out looking!! I asked if it always looked like that, if it was meant to be served that way and the waitress just took it back and said she'd have them do up another one ""less crispy"". She wanted me to be quiet...she was so quick to take it back, like she expected it. The second one she returned with was no better...it was still so dark and burnt looking. She explained that it was in fact meant to be served that way. Ok, I'll give it a try. Mistake! It was very slimy, had little flavour other than being 'fishy' and was clearly just an oversized fish stick. The ""chips"" consisted of nothing more than 1 potato worth of wedges that the fish was balanced on, laid out across the plate to be coated in the grease releasing from the fish above. The too were way overcooked, dry as a bone! Some rank mustardy sauce dressed the plate beneath and the tartar cup looked like they'd left it out in the sun to cure. Did I make an enemy here or not know that one was waiting? I ended up eating half of my husband's turkey sandwich, that after the fact, we couldn't find on any other menu at the table or outside. The sandwich was palateable but only barely. The ciabatta bread they seemed to be so proud of as it was served with all their sandwich options, was super stale, and again dry. The sandwich, overall, was just so cold that it covered up most of the taste. My family will never give this place a second chance and I'm really shocked to see how many people enjoyed their experience. I guess, being from Boston, being used to high standards for seafood and authentic Irish Pub fare, I'm spoiled? Pros: enjoyed the location and decent beer selection Cons: the price, the menu and the quality of the food more
