Don't go here 11/10/2009

I went to Midas located at 4909 Carlisle Pike in September 2009 to get a noise on my car checked out. They told me that the noise (very loud grinding and squeaking...) was coming from the right rear tire and that I needed a new wheel bearing. They also did a ""complimentary check"" of the rest of my car and found a screw in my right front tire. They told me that the screw was in such a place that they could not patch it, and that I needed to buy a new tire ($100). They quoted all of the repairs between $800-900 to fix. Because I was strapped for time, and swore the noise sounded like it was coming from the left front tire, I declined all repairs and drove away. It turns out, the noise was indeed coming from the right front wheel. The rotor was misaligned and grinding and my brakes were very low. My new mechanic gave me new brakes and repurposed my old rotor so it would spin properly. It all cost less than $200. I then went to a local tire center who looked at the screw in my tire. They told me that the screw was less than 1/4 of an inch long and that tube was not punctured. Basically, there was nothing wrong with my tire. They took the screw out for free and checked my air. I did not need to spend $100 for a new tire, I was not in danger of getting a flat and there was nothing wrong. SUMMARY: In short, what MIDAS claimed I needed almost $1000 worth of repairs to fix, two trustworthy, independent mechanics fixed for less than $200. DO NOT GO HERE. They are nice guys, but I wouldn't go to them for more than an oil change. Cons: Incorrect diagnosis x2 more
