Deceptive,overpriced & rude 10/12/2009

OK, so I have a couple of complaints with this place. If you're like me, you choose to take your pet to a place you TRUST, because this is important. Sometimes you have to leave your pet and you need to be able to trust the people working there with your pet. This TRUST requirement is fundamental, and is the main reason I will not bring my dog back to Tech Ridge Pet Hospital. On the front of the building and in mailers sent to my home, the pet hospital says they have a special for 50% off teeth cleaning. At first thought, I was thinking WOW! What a great deal, as I have taken my dog for routine cleanings since he was a puppy, and I normally spend about $250.00 on them. So I figured I'd jump on it to save some money. Well, you know the saying, "If it sounds to good to be true then it probably is." Well that was the case. Upon calling to make the appointment with the vet I inquired as to the cost. I was told that it was $177.00 for the cleaning and additional $96.00 for blood work. I knew something wasn't right as I have always only paid up to $250.00 for both bloodwork and cleaning, and the total with the half off special was $273.00. Not really half off. So I called around to make sure I wasn't being unfair, and sure enough, Austin Vetcare on Parmer and Metric(they also have a south location) charges $235.00 which includes both cleaning, sealants and bloodwork. I also figured I would call one other place to be sure, so I called Great Oaks Pet Hospital in Round Rock total cost for cleaning and blood work included was around $270.00. (They aren't claiming it's half off) Anyhow, I was disgusted at the fact that this vet is being deceptive to try and get people to bite on the half off dental, when it's not half off at all. I never inquire as to the costs prior to bringing my dog in, and had I not, I would have been suckered by them after the fact and forced to pay the bill.(I bet this is what they count on) Anyhow, this brings me to the TRUST part, how can you trust a vet that uses deceptive practices to gain business? I cannot. If you consider that the vet stated this cost was half off then a full price cleaning would have been the $177.00 x 2=$354.00 PLUS the $96.00 of bloodwork =$450.00 total. I have never in my life paid $450.00 for a teeth cleaning for my dog, and heck, not even for me! I feel my research and point of view on this is spot on. And further, if they are overcharging on this, what else will the overcharge me on? I don't know about you guys, but you go in, you take your pet, and you have to trust that they are being reasonable with the costs. Most people won't shop around and check, but I'm telling you, this vet will rip you off given the information stated above. There are several vet places in the area, I had previously taken my dog to Austin Vetcare with no real complaints, however being that I live on Tech Ridge and it is walking distance from my home, I figured why not give him a try. Walking distance to the vet? How awesome would that be? Well, unfortunately, it didn't work out. I will not be overpaying for the convenience of walking distance. I will not allow myself to be ripped off. Neither should you! Pros: On Tech Ridge Cons: Overpriced, deceptive marketing, long waits more
