doctor prescribing over-the-counter medicine 1/13/2009

I had terrible coughs and needed a better medicine than one that I was already taking, which I had purchased at a store, so visited the clinic. After the examination, it was nurse, not the doctor who brought me a prescription, and it was listing exactly the same name, same ingredient % of what I had been taking. I asked the nurse if it was a mistake, to which she replied, ""no, this is a prescription medicine. You got an over-the-counter medicine, but this is not. It's much stronger"" without even looking at the prescription the doctor signed. Still not convinced, I went back to the clinic and showed the medicine Nurse insisted it was different, so I gave up and went to Walmart pharmacy. The Walmart associate who was at the drop off counter glanced the prescription, and said, ""you don't need a prescription for this."" Pros: Admin staff are friendly Cons: Nurse and doctor not paying attention to the prescription they're giving to patients, risk management which gave a lame excuse. more
