What went wrong? 9/23/2008

Hello All, Schooner Or Later was once THE best place to kick back and enjoy the atmosphere and food. When I was an undergrad (CSULB) we would eat at (what we called) Schoonies a couple of times a week. After graduation, and my departure from Long Beach, I would always remember how cool Schoonies was and could not wait to someday return. Well, I have returned, and am horrified at what Schooner or Later has become. The poor portion size of the orders alone surprised me, this was where we would eat early in the day and not have to eat again untill dinner or the next morning. The quality of the food has also declined in that it just does not tast as fresh as what it once did. Edible, but a big let down from years past. The prices are unreasonable for the size of your order. Now taking all of that into account, thing do happen, prices go up, good ingredients may get harder to obtain, who knows???? One thing I can never deal with is poor service. Actually in this case, CRAPPY service. I realize this is a rated -G- site here for the whole family, so i will mind my P's and Q's........The service is just horrible. It took quite a while for our order to be taken and quite a long time for our food to arrive. Our drinks were never refilled. I dont find this easy to say, after all, I still have friends visit from out of state that want ot eat at ""the place on the water I talked sooooo much about"" It is probably best to not eat here. I would feel bad if someone took a special person to Schooner or Later, and had to experience the service I had last time I was there. There is never an excuse for poor attitude and service. ""Good customer service"" at this establishment does not exist. Find a different place to enjoy that breakfast. Pros: Still a beautiful place to be. Cons: Poor food quality, portion sizes, HORRIBLE service. more
