Excellent Sushi - But Kitchen needs ventilation!!! 9/30/2008

Made reservation on 9/26 at 8:45PM, the place was stilled crowded, but no wait. The restaurant have comfortable seating, great ambiance with romantic lighting. The wait staffs were excellent. My beer glass was never empty. The waitress refills my glass without me noticing.\r \r We?ve ordered two appetizers, the texture of the new tuna tataki ($13.95) was dry and hard; skip it. However, the fried soft shell crab ($12.95) was absolutely a delight. For entree, we?ve ordered the 8-piece omakase course (it also comes with clam miso soup, fried calamari, and grilled peppers) for $35. It was worth it. Included in the 8-piece sushi course were premium yellow tail, premium salmon, toro, uni, red snapper, ama ebi, scallops, and baby scallops. All were delicious. Our favorite was the premium yellow tail, our first. The fried calamari and the grilled peppers, which came with the omakase course, were non-event. The calamari was very hard to chew; it was like chewing cardboard, while the peppers were spicy. I wish substitution could be made. I will inquire next time.\r \r The draft Kirin 60 oz pitcher at $12.50 was a great deal.\r \r Major drawback is the smokiness of the restaurant. It seems that the kitchen lacks proper ventilation. After getting out of the restaurant, our cloths and hair stinks (similar experience going to a Korean BBQ). \r \r I would rate this restaurant a 5, but the kitchen smoke really hampered our dining experience, not to mention the need to wash our hair right away. Pros: Great Sushi and service Cons: Kitchen not properly ventilated; dining room a bit warm more
