I'm sitting here with heartburn. Thanks to this place. So many things grossed me out about Yamato - from the dirty water in the koi pond out front to the rotating sushi plates around the sushi bar. The same twenty plates of gross-looking rolls or sushi pieces go rotating by you - its not like in Japan where people are actually grabbing them and the sushi chef is constantly re-stocking or taking off things that have been on too long. it was like a shooting gallery of sad-looking sushis. The worst thing was the little plastic covers over all of them - the plastic looked all smeary and cracked - it reminded me of hospital food. My other big complaint was that when you go to a sushi restaurant, you expect traditional Japanese serving plates, of interesting colors and shapes, that compliment the food--- all the plates I was served were standard-issue cafeteria-looking round or oval white western-style dishes. it made the food look gross. again, kinda like hospital food if they served sushi at hospitals. Then there was the actual taste of the food--- the sashimi was pretty flavorless, the rolls had a weird earthy (kinda like decaying) taste to them, and the gyoza i ordered were waaaaay too fried. Oh and they tried to overcharge me. Sorry. It sucked. But that's what I get for trying to eat sushi in Valencia.
Pros: Cool Japanese banners
Cons: Rotating sushi bar from hell, boring plates, bland food
