A clean, pleasant, encouraging place to get mindfully in shape 8/8/2008

I've been a couch potato for ages, but recently decided to change that. I kept driving past this small, new shopping center with two fitness centers. One is ""gym-ish"" with personal training. And The Pilates Room next door is more serene, with personal training, too. I called The Pilates Room to make sure they could handle my needs (I am very out of shape, very fat, and middle-aged with chronic health conditions.) I was given information, made my appt, and have been attending 3x a week for a month and a half now with nothing but praise for this studio.\r \r The training staff-including owners Liza and Michelle--are wonderful. They are very upbeat, knowledgable, sensitive, and encouraging. It's rough to be fat and mushy in a room full of lithe, gorgeous creatures (some models frequent the studio, I've noticed), but the workout and the supportive staff make it so much easier and less intimidating than it could be. The workout is comprehensive and tough, thorough, but paced to ensure no injury. Fabulous!\r \r Whether you've done Pilates for a while, or you wanted to try it but felt a bit intimidated, this is the place for you. Small, intimate, clean, organized, pleasant, with good music that's not blaring annoyingly like in some gyms!\r \r I can't say enough great things about this studio and its staff.\r \r Try them. Call or visit their website at pilatesroom dot org and ask for Liza or Michelle. Whether you want classes in Pilates (they specialize in Stott Pilates) or Yoga, personal sessions, or their new Kukuwa aerobic-dance classes, they can fix you up!\r \r The gym is on the second floor and surprisingly quiet for being on a busy main thoroughfare. And there's a Starbucks downstairs to get a nice protein-rich smoothie after class, or a sandwich and nonfat latte... :).....and there's a Morrocan restaurant next to it with falafels, Greek Salad, and fresh juices (pineapple, orange, mango, etc). A SUBWAY, too. Parking is not generous, so you may wanna come slightly early.\r \r M Pros: knowledgeable, experienced staff; small clean setting; positive vibes all around Cons: limited parking, somewhat awkward entry/exit to parking more
