Dr. Roman is a businessman first, a dentist second - stay away! 8/20/2008

I scheduled an exam with Dr. Roman because he's in my dental network. I repeatedly told him & his staff that I?m EXTREMELY dental phobic. They were all very understanding. After the exam Dr. Roman suggested that a slightly chipped tooth needed to be filled ?just in case.? It's been chipped for 10 years, but I trusted him. 2 weeks later I went to my appointment, & had an anxiety attack in spite of taking my Rx meds. I tasked to reschedule, and the staff became extremely condesending (I?m 34, not 4). I told them that my anxiety was so high that I?d hyperventilate through the procedure, & was told that he WOULDN?T reschedule . The hygenist called me back. I told her I might not be staying, & explained the situation. She told me that everything was OK, & that I didn?t have to go through any procedure I wasn?t comfortable with. She talked to the doc who said I could reschedule. The receptionist told me I owed them 35% of the cost of today?s visit for not keeping my appointment, & added that she had talked the doc out of charging me 100%. My right hand is in a cast, so I asked her to bill me. She told me that I would be turned over to collections if I didn?t pay. I asked her for my dental records back, & asked to talk to Dr. Roman. He told me in the earlier singsong voice used by his staff that he was sorry I was having a bad day, but they had reserved this time JUST FOR ME & couldn?t give it to anyone else. I was still crying, told him I was having an anxiety attack & offered to call my doctor. His tone changed & he told me his job is to take care of teeth. He added that he ?wants to take care of my teeth, but he has a business to run.? He asked me how he?s supposed to pay his staff if ?people like you? show up and don?t keep your appointments? He asked how much ?I thought was fair? to pay. I told him I?d pay 25%. He asked me if I was going to reschedule this visit & I told him no.. He told me I was paying 100% of charges for today?s visit. Pros: The brunette receptionist (Amy, I think) was very nice and sympathetic Cons: The doctor is more interested in money than teeth, and his staff are rude and condesending more
