Stopped by here after the most fabulous dinner at Chameau and omg, am so glad i did!! This place is truly an LA landmark and so is Harry himself! He was so genial, welcoming and unobtrusive yet so full of info ... the guy's been doing this for decades. Ended up spending our entire Friday nite talking to Harry, walking through the (very full) space to the back artist studio where is adorable pwesh Art (of course) was sleeping and upstairs to see yet more art. He gave us the backstory to every piece we asked him about and what was truly remarkable & refreshing about good ol' Harry is that when we'd ask him about certain pieces, he'd be like, 'Ohh... that one isn't for sale. I'm having too much fun looking at it lately!"" -ha! talk about artistic integrity ;) an artist who doesn't sell his art. On the other hand, he was very pleased when we plopped down some cash for a super-happy piece of framed art. That's another thing -- a lot of the art comes framed already -- he said he goes to rummage sales and picks up frames and repaints & restores them. This is a must-see place - he's been written up in the press over the years (they're even making a documentary of him at the moment) and it's just nice to find a REAL person in LA who's living his bliss. Punk ROCK!
Pros: Harry, the happy 'bean' art - happy faces everywhere!
Cons: More people need to know about him
