I'm a big proponent of highlights that bring out the facial features, especially the eyes. That requires (when it comes to blonde highlights) playing around with different shades/tones of the light colors, such as that adding the lightest color to the front of the face is what draws attention to the eyes. I'm not an expert and I know that.
