Acquacotta should have a sign on their door that says, "Do not enter if you have a party of 5 or more." My parents from out of town, my husband, my son, and I attempted to dine at this retaurant last night, which we had read about and heard from friends was good. When we told the hostess that we had five in our party, she looked confused and talked to the waiter. He came over and told us that they didn't have tables for five people. We looked at him incredulously and suggested that my 9-year-old son could sit on a corner, or, could we not put two tables together? He just smiled and told us that they couldn't do that. There was an empty table for 2 near us and we asked why we couldn't put that together with a table for 4, but he just kept his patronizing smile and told us that the tables were different sizes and they couldn't do that. We left in shock. They were not accomodating and didn't seem to want our business. In fact, we felt discriminated against for having too many in our party! We decided to go to Cera una Volta, another Italian restaurant in Alameda. They put 2 tables together, and we had a wonderful meal! I highly recommend the spinach canneloni and the gnocci with gorgonzola sauce. The customer service was excellent - five stars! Hopefully, Acquacotta will go out of business, and a place that wants customers will replace it!
