I have been unemployed for 8 months, been on numerous interviews (by bus) and have not been hired or even had a call back. I have no income and now my lease is up and the landlord will not renew it, so I have 30 days to find a place to live. I called the Hillsborough Social Service Department on Tuesday, and they told me to bring a driver's license, my social security card and marriage certificate (if I had one) and to be at 2103 Rome Street at 7:30 a.m. Because the buses don't run that early, I had to get a ride down there from a friend in Clearwater. I was there for 2 hours when they told me that they did not know if they even had a counselor for me to speak with. Then approximately 1 hour later, they told me that if I did not have a job, that they could not help me. What is that all about? Then, they said if I came back tomorrow at 6:00 a.m., there might be a counselor who could talk to me, but they couldn't promise anything. Believe me, the buses do not run that early and I could never walk there from Davis Island. I would have to leave at 4:00 a.m. in the dark and I am not about to become a victim. I see how they treat those down on their luck, how would they treat a victim of a crime? I am afraid to ask or find out. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT YOU GO HERE, UNLESS YOU HAVE A JOB. THAT IS THE FIRST REQUIREMENT. Many on the bus with me were complaining about this place and now I am joining them.
Pros: None - not even clean bathrooms
Cons: Associates lying on the phone and then getting you there and telling you they can't help.
