M'Vorneen's is a buried treasure... literally below street level. My first concern was, is this going to be hot and stuffy, and full of cigarette smoke? My fears were unfounded. The air quality is great. Excellent ventilation. Just above is a loud, raucous club, but it's not noticeable down in the pub.
The food is outstanding (this is a bar?). the fish and chips alone is worth a road trip! Full bar plus perfect pub beer and ale choices. It's bustling, but not *too* busy. You won't be able to help but love the (purposefully) underdeveloped structure, and very used, but comfortable furniture. The cozy ambiance is enhanced by management's excellent choices of live musicians. Loud enough to sing along, but not so loud you can't hold a conversation.
The downsides: 1)the service is slow, though the staff is very nice, and 2) some of what is supposed to be hot food is not hot (the soups were just above lukewarm, and the corned beef and cabbage, though delicious, was the same). The fish (fish n chips) was *really* hot, though!
If you're not concerned about time, then relax and enjoy your evening. If the food isn't hot enough, ask them to heat it up. No worries - Everyone's Irish at M'Vorneen's!
Pros: The Food. Parking. Ambiance. Full bar. Great ventilation. Excellent music for the type of establishment.
Cons: Slow (but courteous) service. Hot food not hot enough.
