There are quite a few restaurants on Franklin Ave. in Garden City, but no where to get first rate comfort food. The new owner/chef of the Upper Crust Cafe delivers with top quality ingredients and twists on old favorites. I loved the French Toast with maple butter and pecans on whole wheat bread and the eggs are done right. The corned beef hash was real meat, not the usual canned variety you get everywhere. The pancakes are delicious, and the orange juice is freshly squeezed. I've only had the hamburger for lunch so far, but it was a fresh patty that was cooked perfectly. If I had to compare this place to somewhere I've been before, I would say it was like a Long Island version of Sarabeth's Kitchen. I'm looking forward to trying more of the chefs great cooking.
