Good food, ancient method of payment. 5/29/2008

The food was really good. Service was a little strained - only one server spread over four or five tables at once. I realize in most restaurants that is a normal ratio, but for some reason the server may not have been used to that. The ribs and fried chicken were excellent entrees. The potato salad side order was perfect, but the macaroni and cheese had a weird taste to it. Corn bread was mediocre. Overall, it was a cool place; however, the kicker came at the end when I tried to pay the bill. They split the bill no problem, but they only accepted debit cards or cash. Seeing as how I had no cash, I used my debit card, but they had to charge a minimum of $20 and also charged a service fee of $1.50. I had no other choice but to accept, so I was given the excess over my meal as cash, left the tip, and left the establishment knowing that if there was a next time, I would have to remember to bring cash. A few days later, I notice in my bank account that they put the charge through as an ATM withdrawal instead of a regular debit card transaction, so my bank also charged me a $2.00 service fee for not using a bank ATM. I don't remember seeing anything describing this situation at the restaurant, so just beware and make sure to bring cash to avoid a potential $3.50 in extra fees! Pros: food Cons: debit card handling, refills cost extra more
