Torture alla Vittorio's 4/12/2008

On a recent Friday night my wife and I visited Vittorios. We were promptly seated at a dirty table even though the restauant was at less than half capacity. Soon water and bread arrived. Had I known then that this would be the highlight of our dining experience, I would have skipped dinner and headed to Rite Aid for ice cream. Nearly 15 minutes later our waitress finally arrived at our table and took our drink order (they were out of Peroni so we ordered Birra Moretti). We decided to order our meals at that time as well fearing that our server might again go missing. Our soup and salad arrived. No drinks. We finished our soup and salad. Still no drinks. After 30 minutes we finally received our beers. Warm. We flagged down another waitress (ours must have been time traveling) and explained the problem. She mater-of-factly stated that, ""Someone left the refrigerator door open all night."" She offered no alternative (wine, mixed drink). Finally, I got up with both beers in hand and carried them into the lounge myself. I explained the problem to the bartender. He handed me two new warm beers but no apology. He offered to put them on ice as to cool them down. (Next time the refrigerator is open all night, maybe he should put all of the beer on ice before serving it to customers--just a thought). I declined the second round of warm beers. The food arrived. My wife's Vittorio's Rustica was not only dry but rather flavorless. What white wine sauce once existed in the dish had been evaporated by over-baking or the heat lamp. My linguini alla vongole was pedestrian at best. Time for the check, please. ZZZZZZZZZZZ. Time for the check, please. Another 15 minutes of torture alla Vittorios. Cons: service more
