I took a 1920s wristwatch in for a cleaning. An employee called me with a list of things and what it would cost, except he mysteriously couldn't read the handwriting of the last item on the list - but he assured me that these were all necessary for full repair. I approved the repairs, foolishly trusting. When I went to get the watch, the beautiful ornate original hands had been removed and replaced with tacky ugly plain new hands that didn't match the style at all. This totally ruined the look of the watch of course. I was very angry, but the clerk said I had approved this - and she showed me the list. It was easy to read, contrary to the other guy's claim he couldn't make it out. They claimed the hands had been all rusted and were already thrown away so they could not be put back. But they had looked great, no visible rust at all, much less enough to make them useless. I believe there's a market for those beautiful hands and they took them and sold them and replaced them with the ugliest, cheapest hands possible. So they totally ruined my watch.
