I've been taking my 7 month old Collie mix to the indoor play park on Saturdays for almost 4 months now. Initially she was in with the small dogs as she was only 12 weeks old. It was a great starting point for a puppy this age. Nikki had been the shy-est pup in the litter and would shake any time I took her someplace new. On walks she would try to scamper off behind the closest tree she could find whenever a person, car or other animal would pass by. This is why we wanted to socialize her early on. At Canine Creature Comforts, Nikki was exposed to meeting and socializing with new people and other dogs. This helped her fear of entering new places a great deal. After only a few weeks of attending the play park, we found her to be less stressed and afraid of new situations she encountered. She was more confident on her walks, and did not shy away from strangers and other dogs like she did when we first brought her home. After a few weeks playing in the small dog park, Nikki moved on to the large breeds and although she is one of the smaller ones in the big dog park....she still plays confidently and has a great time with dogs of all sizes now.
