I have been to some of the most exclusive, uppity salons in St. Louis assuming that sleek decor and an expensive price list will guarantee beautiful hair. Time and time again, I have been disappointed in the quality, lack of creativity and snooty customer service. On a whim, I made an appointment at Bouffant Daddy because it's just a few blocks from home and, heck, it has a cute name. Mary, the receptionist, was friendly and personable, and based on what I wanted, she booked me with Erin. I wanted a drastically different cut and color and Erin took over three hours on my hair, the first 30-45 minutes of which we just spent talking and coming up with ideas. Erin is an anal-retentive perfectionist and she was not satisfied until the cut was just perfect and she had applied the most amazing 2-color combination I have ever been lucky enough to have on top of my head. She always has great ideas and suggestions and I always feel hip and beautiful when I walk out the door. And she is super sweet and approachable to boot. If you want a totally homogenized, suburban, SUV-driving, soccer-mom, Martha-Stewart-helmet hairdo, this probably isn't the place for you, but no need to worry because there are apparently countless shops around town that cater to that sort of thing. If you want a unique hairstyle and don't mind someone giving you her undivided attention for several hours, Erin is the gal to call. Since she is also a trained barber, my husband has even started going to see Erin, and his hair has never looked better (gone are the days when he would go to a chain place where he would get buzzed all over with a #3 clipper and be done in 8 minutes...). The shop is hella cute and the owner stocks the shelves with unusual handbags, jewelry and accessories. They also display a rotating collection of work from local artists. If you're sick of the pretention of the local ""big-name"" salons, give Erin at Bouffant Daddy a try. You won't be disappointed.
