Close as it comes in San Diego to West Texas style BBQ 3/23/2008

This place looks like the BBQ joints I frequented as a child in West Texas. The beef, which is pretty much all I ever order, is smoked and served with the sauce on the side, as a proper BBQ should be. The main difference is that they use oak wood to smoke, not mesquite, so the flavor is not the same, but it's darned good beef! The beans are more yankee-style baked beans and not pintos, as you'd expect with BBQ, but the coleslaw is tasty. The portions are generous, they have specials from time to time, and it's a great value for the money. I have had the hotlinks (good), the chicken (very nice) and the ham (also good). On Fridays (I think) they have a stew like what mom used to make, but run out of it fast. Can't say enough good about this place - they also give discounts to seniors. Enjoy! Pros: really good food, plenty of it Cons: lines can be long during ""rush"" times, closed on Sundays more
