I entered into a contract with Steel City Heating and Air to install a new HVAC system in my residence. The customer service I received was deplorable. Upon the signing of the contract, I paid a $4,000 deposit with the understanding that the remaining balance ($13K+) would be paid upon completion of the work. The heat pump units were installed, but the ductwork was not finished. Additionally, the heating system did not function properly in that it could not heat the house above 50F when the outside temperature was below 32F. I refused to ?sign off? on the job until all work was done. After 2.5 months and multiple calls and emails to the company, I became insistent that Steel City either finish the work or adjust the final price to reflect the work completed. I received bi-weekly bills from Steel City for the full contract amount (with no credit for my $4,000 deposit) throughout this time. I continued to call the office, and then finally email and request an adjusted bill. Steel City would not make adjustments on the bill. Each time I called, I would have to explain my concerns again and was told someone would call me back to ?answer my questions.? The person I would speak to next would have no background on my complaint and would say someone would call me back. This ?pass-off? went on for at least 6 different people and occurred over the 2.5 month time. Finally, I wrote a detailed letter, sent by certified mail and a certified check of a reduced amount based on the work done. Then and only then, did Steel City respond that they would finish the work. As it turns out, the original installers did not properly install the unit resulting in a massive freon leak. All the work was shoddy, and the work site was always a mess. The workers did not come as scheduled and did not call before arrival, resulting in the setting off of my alarm system and the police comming to the residence.
Cons: shoddy workman ship, unorganized record keeping, and dishonest business practices
