I am not a restaurant fan; I've had too many disappointing experiences in ""highly recommended"" Austin area restaurants in the past few years. However, on Valentine's Day, 2008, my wife and I ventured forth once again, prepared to be disappointed. We chose O'leander for several reasons: (1) as far as we knew, it had not been reviewed and ""highly recommended"" by the Statesman; (2) it was easy to get to; (3) it had a good reputation amongst my wife's teacher colleagues. We came away very pleased with our choice. We had one of the Valentine's Day specials--fillet mignon, and it was excellent. Our wait person, Sonia, was prompt and responsive without being overly familiar; she clearly wanted us to enjoy our meal. Unlike our experience at other restaurants, she was informative without any blatant attempt to sell us something. O'leander has a limited but diverse selection of beer and wines at reasonable prices. Our visit to O'leander greatly enhanced our Valentine's Day experience, and we will be back.\r

O'leander is not for everyone. If you are looking for tech boom excess, this is definitely not the place for you.
Pros: Excellent food, artfully prepared; competent, unobtrusive service
Cons: Not for the tech boom folks looking to see and be seen by the ""beautiful people"".
